What seed would you choose for the following location:
Central Oklahoma; Hot dry summers with rain USUALLY beginning in fall; very sandy soil; full sun exposure; bowhunting over starting October 1 and will end most hunting at this location by October 25.

this is too tough a question to answer easily- The simplest seeds to sow for a fall planting are rye, oats & wheat - all will grow in sandy soil - though you may need to add Nitrogen & other nutrients.

How about peanuts...We raise them here in NC...They do well in sandy soils and if I remember right from my days with John Deere, I believe I heard that peanuts (Spanish) are raised in OK...

I'd recommend a beardless variety of wheat. Russian beardless is probably the cheapest, and for grazing it is the best. Deer will walk across three fields of regular wheat to get to the beardless. Plant it early, pray for rain, and it will provide forage from September through April. If you can toss a little fertilizer on it, even better.
Rye will work, but animals will eat wheat if given the option.
Oats are about as good as wheat, but they are a little more sensitive to cold weather.
