Pretty much Just like corn

2-3 ft apart -
1-2" deep.
1 seed ever 6-8" in rows.

Sunflowers need ample Nitrogen -band in at planting if possible.

Just planted mine Sunday. Shoot for 20,000 plants per acre. If using regular seed (not herbicaide resistant), first determine the set up of your cultivator. You will be cultivating. If you have a cultivator that sets up for 30" rows, go with 30" rows and select a seed plate for your planter to achieve 20,000 seeds per acre. Row width and seed spacing matter little it's plants per acre that counts. Do not plant rows 1/2 your tractor tire spread measurement for ease of tracing your tracks if you have a one row cultivator. You will not be able to stradlle a single row if you do. Seed depth can be 1-3". Go deep if low moisture, shallow if high. Potasium and phosphorous are even more important than nitrogen to a sunflower, but your field is more likely deficient of nitrogen than the other two. Do not place nitrogen in contact with sunflower seed, two inch offset is best.

Thanks, I'm planting them tonight, about 1/8 of an acre. Just a little experimental plot for doves.

ORIGINAL: portable ladder

about 1/8 of an acre.
so about 25 yds by 25 yds. that's pretty small. i don't think many doves will be attracted to it. you'll probably have better results if you went with a bigger plot and did away with this postage stamp sized test plot. assuming you have room for a bigger plot.
