Sounds to me like you NEED to hunt that island, the question is how to get to it????? I've heard of people using something like a snowshoe to walk across deep mud. Works like a charm. I say make up some sort of snowshoe to distribute your weight or buy some.

Stupid question ... How are the deer getting there? Their foot print is smaller than ours and they should sink deeper. Where are they crossing over?

Get a few wind up alarm clocks and set them up the day before you plan to hunt. When they go off the noise should spook the deer out. You could have each go off a few minutes apart so they would be really confused. Good luck & better hunting!
