Default Sights for a shotgun

i'm not a big fan of the factory sight on my shotgun i will be using it mostly for deer hunting. i have a cousin who told me about tru-glo florescent pipe sights but a friend told me a scope would be better. i was wondering what people recommend and what they've had the most luck with. thanks.
