Should serve you fine. Doesn't have the asthetic appeal of a remington 870 (which just feels great in my hands but I hate them just the same) but it'll take a load of field use and still do what you expect it to do. I'm a big fan of Mossberg. I owned a maverick years ago and it was a good entry level field grade shotgun. I prefer the mossberg 500 but either of them would do just fine for a hunt.

Never owned a maverick but have used Mossberg for over 20 years.
I prefer the 500.

The Maverick is cheaply priced the Mossberg a little higher in price &
the Remington 870 experess higer yet.
Any one of the above will get the job done & will get it done well.

Neighbor got son one for Christmas seems to handle and shoot just fine.
