Default REM VS MOSSBERG SHOTGUN

I am looking at either remington 870 express super magnum or mossberg 835 ulti-mag 12 gauge. Will be using for turkey, duck and possibly geese. Anyone have experience with either one? Also, is factory modified chokes ok or should I get diffent one? Cost is within $20 - so price is not a concern.

I like the mossberg. The parts are higher quality and the ported barrel really reduces the recoil. Most remingtons are a little more tolerent of many different kinds of ammo though. The mossbergs I have seen pattern better, but thats more of an individual gun thing though.

I own an 870 super mag turkey camo 23in. barrel, and an 835 shadowgrass camo. never had a problem with either one of them, I think the 870 handles a little better, just feels a little slimmer, but no big deal. the features of the 835 more than make up for the feel. last year when I was researching the 835, I found an article written by someone from mossberg and the rep stated that they had tested all aftermarket chokes, and had no better success than with the factory one. I also paid a $100 less for my 835, caught it on clearance at gander mountain.

The 870 is hard to beat! I've got the 26" SPS in Mossy Oak Break Up. This shotgun is at home hunting all the things you mentioned. As for the choke, for turkeys, I use the H.S. Strut Undertaker, but for ducks and geese, I use the factory Remington Modified choke.

I use a Mossberg 835 with a Hastings extended choke tube for turkey.
It is very good shooter. However, I think that 870's are made better.
You will probably never wear either one out in your lifetime unless you really shoot a lot.

Well here goes The very best mossberg is about as good as the cheapest Remington, if it was me I would buy a good used wing master then aan express than any thing else than a mossberg I have seen to many people have trouble with them

While the Mossberg is a bit more gruff looking (and perhaps feeling) They are VERY tough guns. I have used the 835 with great results. I also have a Mossberg 500 that I bought used somewhere around 10 years ago. Hunted and shot 2-3 games of trap a week with it. gave it to my little brother...HE hunted and shot trap with it (never cleaned the thing save for the barrel <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>) Now I have it back (He got a Nova). It's shot 3&quot; slugs, 3&quot; Nitro steel, Turkey loads...you name it. This gun, since I first bought it, has needed NO repairs of any kind, has NEVER failed to fire, eject, or load.
I HAD a rem 870...but didn't like it...PERSONAL choice...not a function issue.
They pattern well, and are as reliable as the sun. Not sure what a &quot;better&quot; pump gun would be other than asthetics.

DG is right. The Remmington name will hold better value. For ME, I have never bought a gun I thought I might sell someday, so re-sale value doesn't mean much to me.
Both guns will do all you ask of them, if re-sale is on your mind...Perhaps the Remmington (though it seems the world is flooded with 870s and Moss 500s)if not....whichever YOU like best.

I like MY mossberg 500 only because my dad gave it to me years ago. When you shoot a 3&quot; shell the slide comes back 3/4 of the way. Sometimes after you shoot the shell will get stuck when you bring the slide back. I do like the features on it better than the features you get with a remington. Like the double bead sight. My next gun will be a 3-1/2&quot; remington or mossy, whichever one is cheaper. They are both great guns.
