? what if your number was permanant so you would not have to have it changed from on hunting apperal to the next and the possibility of losing as some have stated. -- just a ? i have no opinion on this yet- but i would think it would glare or the only color that would show against the orange would be white-and thats not cool[:'(] when your whitetailin it

Ok, so, let me get this straight.

You have to apply for a permit to purchase firearms which are guarenteed to you by the United States Constitution, then you have to wait an additional 3 days to get a firearm, after you have already been deemed fit to own said firearm, then you have to run around the woods in orange clothes, and have a number attached to your back? Is it just me, or do these descritptions sound more and more like the states are treating law-abiding citizens like convicts? Sorry, but it just doesn't make any sense to me.

BTW, I know a lot of states don't require, these numbers, or the wait, or blaze orange, or the ID card, but I am sure there are some that meet all 4 criteria.

Well, not to insult any other states, but NO, we do not have to wear our lic #'s on our backs, nor do we have to wear orange, apply for a permit to own a firearm, or wait 3 days to get it (unless the computers are down). And just for those who ask, the hunter accident rate in Nevada is very low, only 2 last year and 0 (zero) in 2002. This is Nevada by the way.

Don't have to in VA and don't want to. I agree that one incident shouldn't decide whether or not we should have them.

VA is getting to be a great place to hunt. You can now buy your license online...call in to a 1-800 number to check your deer rather than go to a check station...and each year the harvest limits go up it seems. No to the numbers.

As Cardeer said in PA we have to wear them, and if you have a doe tag then you need to have both the license and doe tag visible at all times. I hardly believe that any one could read the number unless they were awfully close.

Doesn't bother me to wear it. It's the way its always been for me.

I've been deer hunting Wisconsin for the last 36 years, we need to wear them on our back, I've never known any other way, so it really doesn't bother me.

When early on in the contact with Mantis, one of the murdered hunters intended to report Vang's trespass to the police. He told others to write down Van's # from his back as he hollered it out. Another of the murdered hunters wrote it with his finger in the dust on one of the ATV's they were riding. When Vang later appeared from the woods with a couple of other hunters who helped him find his way out of the woods an officer recognized the number and took Vang into custody.

There is some speculation (actually quite a bit) that Vang knew that there was an active warrant out for his arrest for trespass while hunting a year or two earlier and wasn't intrested in being apprehended for it.

If, in fact, there was an active warrant out for Vang, what attempts were ever made to pick him up? From all accounts that I have read, it certainly doesn't seem he was living his life in hiding. He was an active member of his community, readily conducting his life in public. Why would WI issue permits to an individual who has an active warrant?

I would really like to hear what the other hunters who helped him find the way out have to say. What was his demeanor like? What did he say? Was he acting weird or suspisiously? How did they feel after they discovered or were told that this nut was a murderer?

I sincerely wish this incident had never happened and my prayers continue to be with those fellow hunters who were senselessly murdered and their families and friends.

If indeed this Vang fellow is guilty I hope they turn up the fires of hell just for his arrival.
