folks i believe im allergic to eat as much as i love to eat it[:@]last year i broke out in these bad welks bout ever time i ate it and it itched horribly.i wanted to blame it on dry skin but after eating some of this years 1st batch of jerky the other night i woke up to my wrist itching and had a lil welk coming up.i love it and this really sucks.anybody else have any similar reactions?

The first thing I would do is go to your Dr.

And have a alegery test done to make sure.

It might not be the deer meat but something else.

But before I would give up deer meat I would make sure.

And if it is deer meat maybe the Dr. would tell you to take some Benadryl with the deer meat.

But I would check it first out to be for sure.

My guess is it's not the venison but the MSG(monosodiumglutamate) you put in the jerky to cure it. I've eaten venison for years but the first time I ate home made deer jerky I experienced the same thing. I took a couple years to figure it out and now that I know what causes it I stay away from it and haven't had the problem since. I still eat lots of venison but no jerky. The soy sauce I used as a marinate was what contained the MSG.

Never heard of such a thing with venison

Friend of mine is allergic. Reacts similar to a moderately severe bee sting.
