My First Time Back In The Deer Woods
I went out hunting yesterday. Nov 22-2004
I tryed to rattle.
I didn't get any thing,
But I did smell something that I thought was a buck.
The smell was there for a minet and then it was gone.
All though I didn't get any thing,
It felt good just to get out in the woods.
When I got back home I was tired but Happy.
And One More Thing A Big Thank You TO David Mil.
He knows what I am talking about.

RE: My First Time Back In The Deer Woods
jrbsr,
I'm glad that you got too enjoy the outdoors. After all, that's why were here. I hope my opinion is wanted and warrented but, If the deer are in the rut/post rut (pre-second rut/second-rut (grin))--did you find out?-- then perhaps rattling would not be as effective as it would pre-rut (when the bucks are ready but the does aren't). perhaps a better tactic would be to get in an area where you can see real well--near recently used trails or find the areas where the does are collecting near food sources--Bucks will be on the move to monitor does' breeding potential and they (bucks) will not be interested in fighting that much. Does will act consistently though and can still patterned as long as they're not too pressured. If the deer are being pressured by hunters--then look for the spot that will offer the bucks the most security(brushiest piece of out of the way whatever--where nobody else wants to go) and take a look in there. good luck
