Update. Rained all night and the whole day today. I got back out today and to the spot where I last jumped her at about 12:00. I did a grid search for about 350 yds. At 2:30 She jumped up from behind a fallen tree and took off runing like nothing was wrong.

I went to the spot that she was bedded down. The leaves were all pushed back to expose nothing but bare dirt and there was a pile of deer mess in the bed where she had laided. I looked at the spot for a good fifteen minutes and all I could find was a very few small peices of hair. The hair was brown at the base and white on the tip. It had rained all night, but if she was bedded down there should at least have been some blood?

I backed off and made a big loop to get in front of here to try and cut here off from leaving my property. Never saw anything else. [>:]

yjbates,
I did same thing many years ago. At least you were swabbing your barrel. I didn't reload on a deer I thought was stone cold dead. That deer got up never to be seen again. Needless to say I only made that dumb mistake one time!

A guy on our hunting farm did almost the same thing this year. He shoots doe,it falls down,he walked up to deer thought it was dead, never reloaded, took gun and all gear back to truck. Walked up to deer within 5ft ready to gut it, and up it jumps and ran to next farm and Boom!

Shame Shame on you! What if that woulda been an 8-10-12 pnt buck. Screw the swab on a 2nd shot. Reload and get ready to shoot again. Hek - you might walk up to that deer you just shot, its stone cold dead - and all of a sudden old Mr buck walks up and your swabbin for a 2nd shot. Get the drift.
