Finding someone in your tree stand???What the .%^&$#

Private land or public can be two completely differnt issues.
I have private land I hunt with a couple buds and we hunt each other's stands all the time. Of course if you put it up you'd have first dibs but it just seems kind of horses--t if you wanted to hunt an area I've said I'm not going to and I told ya to carry your own stand down there and stay out of the one I built.
Even on public ground there IS ANOTHER SIDE TO THESE STORYS. I once hunted some public ground where one guy put up about 25 of those plywood and 2x4 ladderstands about 8 feet tall. He left these up all year, year after year until they rotted. Indiana law calls for those to be removed at the end of the season.
He thought he owned everything with in sight every time he put up another stand.
I can tell ya, no one is keeping me off 10 acres of public ground just because they dumped off five dollars worth of lumber there. He would come wandering in about 8 in the morning or think he was going to still hunt from stand to stand and run people off all day. Bull shirt kiddo. The law says first come, first serve. Wander in late and he's going to be the one moving on. I don't care if he built a thousand dollar condo.

I guess it was easier for you to stomp the brush, break your back, almost fall out of your tree several times to install your stand then it was for those guys to do! This happens way too often and it's not considered by some as unethical. I have a problem where I hunt because if someone wants to sit in my tree they just have to follow the footprints in the snow.

It is truly sad to hear that I am not the only one with that problem, but I did love some of the replys, god I love that one about the officer and the one who took the steps out of the tree and left the guy up there hanging, lol. I feel for the fellow who had 8 stands stolen, where do you hunt high crime area???

We have a deer camp with 26 members and we had that problem for awhile. Then we passed a rule that each member was allowed 2 private stands and no one was allowed to hunt them without permission. Each member can have as many stands as he wants but can only have 2 private. Maybe if you put up another stand and really bragged on it they would go hunt it and leave the good one alone. I have no problem telling someone to get out of my stand.

I don't care if it's put up on public land or not ,
if my name is on the nameplate you're getting your butt out of my stand . Failure to honor this policy may result in a quick trip to the ground for you . Sitting in my property is the same as stealing it .

Yep I guess I'm not alone on the not trusting friends deal. I hunt with a group of friends, real great guys, but when it comes to hunting it seems all rules go out the window. I don't share game pics, dont talk about what I saw, kinda sad. I got one guy that is the worst, he rather ride the ranch roads in his new Polaris Ranger then sit and hunt. My close little group tried to talk to him about it, but he just doesn't see our way of thinking. He's riding roads that are not on the way nor near his plot of land. He's at the lease EVERY WEEKEND, so we started marking our trails off the road to see if he is going to our stands.

Last year a week after harvesting a NJ black bear, I went back to hunt the either sex deer hunt. I had left my climber buried in a plastic bag, with pine branches on top of it. When I approched my stand it was gone, I looked around and found it about 30yds away still in the bag, with the branches on top. I climbed the tree, just after 1st light I hear walking, ends up bein a hunter, he's looking around with a puzzle face, he then sees me in the stand, walkes over and says "THATS MY STAND, GET OUT OF IT OR I'LL CALL THE GAME WARDEN" I said "OK, I'LL BE RIGHT DOWN". Little did he know that for one I am a cop, and two I engraved my name into the metal of the stand under the foam arm rest. When I got down, I pulled my wallet out showed him my picture ID, and badge, the look on his face PRICELESS !!!!! I then told him to put his gun down, show me his ID, and hunting license, took down the info, he left, I climbed back up in my stand laughing, I called the Game Warden office gave them my info, his info, and what happen. They picked him up, we went to court, I didnt want him bein fined, he has a family, but I did ask the judge to suspend his hunting license for 2 years, and he agreed

I agree. One of the smartest things you can do is take your trusty dremel tool and scribe your name on your stand in a hidden spot. Here in Arkansas if you're hunting a wildlife management area you have to have your name and address permanently on it. I'm kind of against putting my address on it for obvious reasons but that's the way it is here. It's quite the rude awaking when a thief is confronted and says it's his and you turn it over and there's your name on it.....
Thankfully I've never had to deal with the thieves yet. But I usually use my tree lounge and I pack it out each time unless I'm hunting close to camp and can keep a good watch on the paths going in. I hate thieves with a passion........... It takes alot of balls to rip someone off that's carrying a high powered rifle or a compound bow----or a really stupid one (the catagory I place most all thieves in)

I would ask them to get out of my stand. If they got even a little bit smart then I would explain to them that there was two ways to come down. Climb down right now or jump out later because I am fixing to climb up and take my steps/stick down. Knowing me I would be civil but sarcastic but I would be hoping they would get mouthy at which point I would flip my wig and either beat them senseless or get beat senseless while trying to beat them senseless. Again, I would be civil but I am sure I would be pissed so it probably wouldn't take very much for me to lose my temper in that situation.
