Default Finding someone in your tree stand???What the .%^&$#

What would you do??? I was just a bit late, but when you just go and use someone else's stuff, to me it is just like stealing it. There is a unwriten rule, if it's not mine I stay away from it. So this is what I did, I walked around the the field and all the way to may stand, looked him in the eyes and shook my head, and walked away. I think he got the idea, because he and his friend left , who was also in my buds chair as well. I could have said something, but knowning me, if I did, there would not be a deer for 100 miles. What would you do or say????

Happened to me last year. Someone wasnt in my stand but on my lands on an atv making all kinds of noise and riding and looking over hills for deer. Once they turned the atv off i was so mad that i just screamed out....PRIVATE PROPERTY BOYS!!!!!!!. They said..."We are just lookin for a way off the mountain". I screamed"GO THE SAME WAY YOU CAME FROM" in a very angry manner. Well they went to leave and got there atv stuck going up a point on the ridge and finally got outa there just a few minutes before dark. They ruined my hunt. Im very touchy on the subject of tresspassing. I only hunt my land and dont bother anyone else. People should have more respect. Fortunatly a couple days after that i got the big 10 point that i was hunting. I was so worried that they would poach the deer or run it outa the country.

If it were public property, proablly exactly what you did. If it was mine or other private property that I had permission to hunt I would diffinately chase them off.

Last year a week after harvesting a NJ black bear, I went back to hunt the either sex deer hunt. I had left my climber buried in a plastic bag, with pine branches on top of it. When I approched my stand it was gone, I looked around and found it about 30yds away still in the bag, with the branches on top. I climbed the tree, just after 1st light I hear walking, ends up bein a hunter, he's looking around with a puzzle face, he then sees me in the stand, walkes over and says "THATS MY STAND, GET OUT OF IT OR I'LL CALL THE GAME WARDEN" I said "OK, I'LL BE RIGHT DOWN". Little did he know that for one I am a cop, and two I engraved my name into the metal of the stand under the foam arm rest. When I got down, I pulled my wallet out showed him my picture ID, and badge, the look on his face PRICELESS !!!!! I then told him to put his gun down, show me his ID, and hunting license, took down the info, he left, I climbed back up in my stand laughing, I called the Game Warden office gave them my info, his info, and what happen. They picked him up, we went to court, I didnt want him bein fined, he has a family, but I did ask the judge to suspend his hunting license for 2 years, and he agreed

I would climb the stand and grab them by the nostrils and send them to the ground from 15' or 20' (however high your stand is). I agree with you that it's like stealing and I have 0 tolerance for thieves. Of course I have a bit of bad taste in my mouth this year over the subject since I had 8 ladder stands stolen of my property (private) 2 weeks before bowseason opened.

Happened last year. At the time I was the only one with permission to hunt this land. I had several stands one of them was a chain on stand with screw in steps up the tree. The stand was facing a small corn feild ( the screw in steps are important later own) well is was late season and I was heading to the strand about 3;00 pm when I got to the stand I saw a rather large man fast asleep in my tree. I started to yell at him but I had a stroke of genus. I quietly walked to the tree and slowly started to take the screw in steps out. I got all I could reach the I quietly walk back to another stand within sight of the chain on. Well I couple hours later he start to wake up, he looks around see’s a fat doe in the field. He shoots the doe then lowers his gun down with MY rope. He then starts to descend down the tree………..

He gets to the point where I had removed the steps and the………………“WHAT THE HELL…….where the steps go.”[:-] (I am sitting in my stand trying not to laugh. I climb down and calmly walk to the tree and hold up the steps and ask. “this what your looking for”………LOL I just turn ad left him holding onto the tree……LOL he must have jumped eventually

My dad told me about the time he was hunting public land in the mountains in Colorado when he set his backpack down and climbed a ridge. A guy came, picked up his backpack and was about to walk away when my dad started yelling hey, thats mine. The guy kinda thought about it and set the backpack down and walked away.

I don't own land but have leased a place with 4 other guys for 30 yrs. I have trouble with my own friends ! I built a permanent stand 25 yrs ago and it is a very good spot. But all my friends want to hunt there. I don't mind sharing but they run it in the ground. When I'm not around their attitude is they can hunt any place they want and as much as thy want, All want to hunt my stand ! and they do for weeks before I can ever get there (just last week they shot and lost two good bucks with a bow)
Basically these are nice guys, but have no ethics or consience when it comes to hunting my deer stand. I don't know how to solve the problem as I don't want to cause any hard feelings, they know how I feel but don't care !
I have never hunted in any of their stands nor do I disturbe their areas before the season. I just don't understand why they do it. I guess I will just move to another area on the farm and say the heck with it !
Ir you have any suggestions I will listen.

I have a real problem with my own friends ! We hunt on a small farm and I built a nice tree house about 25 yrs ago in what I thought was a good spot, it is a great spot! When it comes to deer hunting my friends have no ethics or conscience. When I'm not hunting they are in my stand every day ! Weeks before the rifle season(scares the deer) Shot wounded and lost many bucks with bow or gun etc.( just last week) Their attitude is if I'm not in the stand they can do what they want. We don't own the land but have leased this little patch since 1978. I told them I would just tear it down,(they would just build one back)
I don't want any hard feelings with these guys but I don't know how to solve the problem. I guess I will just move to another part of the farm.
By the way, I have never hunted in any of their stands or even disturbed their areas so they will have a good chance but that philosophy doesn't seem to apply to my little stand. What would you do ?
