Judge him after the hunt, not before. You could have had a 40 year old chain smoker with cataracts that drank cheap wine all day.

If it is worrying you that much ask for references. All good Outfitters should be able to give you a list of references. If he cant supply you with this then I may be a little bit suspicious.

Yep. I would do it with no problem. I would ask around to see how good he is at guiding and whatr kind of person he is. As long as you get a positive reply, Have no worrries. That's my take.

Nope not a bit.
The guy I hunt with and I hooked up about 6 years ago, he was just 21 then, and I was a beginner, I have learned more from him than from anyone I have ever been in the woods with. Oh.. I am now 33, would make me 27 then I think.
Bottom line if the guide comes recommended and seems to know his / her business, I will hunt with them any time I have the $$ to pay for the service.

Just my uneducated opinion!

One of the most knowledgeable hunters I ever knew was my cousin Tim, he lived in the woods. Tim by the time he was 18 had killed more nice deer than most men down home that were twice his age and hunted thier whole lives. Tim killed a deer every opening day from the time he was 9 and always filled every tag he had. His dad who was also acknowledged as one of the best down home taught Tim a lot and Tim took what his dad taught him and expanded on it. I would not hesitate having a 20 year old guide. I do miss Tim, God rest his soul.

By the time I was 20 I had killed over 25 deer with my bow, and would have felt very confident guiding in my home woods. I would only use a guide for the knowledge of the land, I don't want to be put in a stand he picks out anyway, so if he grew up in the area, I'd have no problem.
