I have always waited until the last week or two in october, deer around here. Rut around the first two weeks in november typically. Do you think I could get away or should set those earlier like the first week or two in october, or would that tip off mr. high and wide.

I personally set up my mock scrapes in June.I have cameras on them and get some great pics. They do not get really tore up until mid oct but deer make scrapes all year long not just during rut.Its kinda like a community get together place. They all mark it and sniff it to see who has been there and if there are any new neighbors....

I started some back early in the spring. Most were existing scrapes from past year but I had luck starting new ones. here's a link to my original post on the subject.

I haven't touched them in months and all that took hold are still showing signs of use. I haven't set up a game cam on them in an effort to not disturb their normal activity but I just got a 500 event trail timer that I plan to set up over the most active scrapes to see just how frequently they are being used.

I plan on starting mine the first week in September. THat will then give the deer a month to work the scrape and hopefully get conditioned to visiting it frequently. Then come Oct. 1 I'll be waiting for him!
