RE: Deer calls this early
i live in South Carolina... and SC is broke up into zones. deer season comes in different times in these zones.
for example... my hunting season dont start until Sept. 1 (bow) and Sept. 15 (gun). but i have a friend that lives just a bit over 2 hours from me and their season started Aug. 15.
i dont know where .308 lives, but deer season does come in early in some places.
EDITED: Aug 15 (instead of Oct 15)

RE: Deer calls this early
i used the can 3 different times last yea and called up alot of deer and 2 were real nice bucks one was a 6 pointer with a 16 inch spread that i killed and the next day was opening day of muzzeloader season and i called up the biggers buck that i have ever seen and he was at 30 yards in the wide open. but ofcorse with my luck when i pulled the trigger the cap on the muzzeloader went of but the powder dident so he just trotted away. i saw him during bow season to but he was 2 far. he was a 12 pointer with 10 inch brows and 13 inch G2s and about a 26 inch spread but thats okay becuse he is bigger this year in i alreaddy have him scouted out and he is a brute

RE: Deer calls this early
The Woods-Wise Buck-n-Doe tube call is the only deer call I use. Sounds more like the deer here in SC.
Grunts and light sparring (rattl'n-bag) when rubs begin to appear, usually by mid-Sept, and doe bleats during the rut.
Deer will respond to doe bleats all year.
