I hunt most of the time out of a climbing stand. I have a couple that I like real well. I am looking into getting some lock on stands though. During some post season scouting, I've found some really nice areas with a lot of good sign that don't have any good climbing trees within bow range. If the 'ole lady will come off some cash, I'll be getting a few lock ons for next season. If not, I guess I'll be forced to make my own or hunt on the ground.

I use 10 hang on/loc on stands of various manufacturers and a Summit Viper climber. I love the comfort and the ability to move around that the climber gives you. The fixed stands are nice because I have them placed in areas that produce year after year and sometimes there are not trees suitable for using a climber.

I prefer loc-on stands with either climbing sticks or screw in tree steps. I hunt mainly the same areas every year that seem to produce and i put them up in the early fall and leave them until the season goes out. It's private property and so far i've been lucky and haven't had any stolen. Some of my stands are so old though someone else would probably be scared to get in them

Permanent stands for me. At 6'4" and 350 lbs the hang on stands seem too flimsy for me.LOL. I have a tree stand in a cedar swamp which I have taken at least one deer from each year for the last 20 years. Most years multiple deer.

i use hang on and permanent stands. i hunt a creek and the deer just love 2 come grazing around and get a drink of water. i am only 10 yards away from a creek in one of the permanent stands i hunt, and 15 from the other. for my hanging stand i jsut bought it so i will have to see where i will put that (should be out there within the next 2 weeks to find a spot.)

Most of the time I will prefer a climbing stand. To me they are much more flexable, you can change your setup easy and often, so the deer have less chance of patterning you!
About the only time I don't like the climbers is when it is really cold, (I live and hunt in a warm weather climate) when You are wearing a lots of clothes it makes climbing harder, and then once you are up there you get really cold because you've sweated!

i have quite a few permanent stands but they are on my own land so that is allowed. If i hunt on the government land i have a climber stand and 3 lock ons. I really love my wodden stands but sometimes thats not where the action is at so i have to hang a few other stands. If u get a good location a wooden stand is great but if i have to follow the deer around i have to use the others.
