Default 23 Deer together in field

this afternoon I saw 23 deer together in a field where the snow had finally melted and they could get to whatever it is they were eating. Not a horn on any of the deer leads me to believe they have already started shedding around here. (eastern VIRGINIA)

I wish I had my camera because it was a beautiful sight

this time of year deer start conjugating(sp?) i have seen as many as 43 or 41 deer at a time in a field eating. i think they do this b/c it is easy for them to watch out for prey while they r feeding and it may keep them warmer when they go bac in the woods to be down, (not sure about the warm part though) nebody come up with ne other reasons y they do this?

I remember out in this one spot by my old church, every year at this time of year you could go out there of an evening and there would be anywhere from 100-200 deer there!!!!!! It wasn't like that every evening but quiet often. It would be like that every year for about 3-4 years. I know that is a ton of deer but me and my dad would count them. I swear I am not exagerating. That was always cool to see.

That doesn't necessarily mean the buck have shed already, this time of year I seldom see bucks running with does. Usually the big bunches are does and yearlings.

Thats exactly what it is. The Deer "Yard up" as they call it. Its does and Yearlings who probably have been bred during the rut hanging out eating. You will see really high concentrations if there is alot of snow. Bucks seldomly hang out with family groups. They are back to their bedrooms eating up putting weight back on after the rut taking it easy.
