Nope. I leave it in the woods for the animals with the rest of the guts (including liver).

ORIGINAL: slugman hmmmmmm scrapple ......gotta love it I probably can't eat them anymore because of Crohns Disease. Now I do eat somethings that people would probably not eat. Like: Groundhog Possum Racoon Turtle Snake Goat Etc. But that's all meat to me. BTW, I have a bunch of first cousins in Stokes, grew up in G'ville. |
RE: do you eat the heart??
Whistle pig is only good BBQ'd.
I probably know your kin in Stokes. Whereabouts? Walnut Cove, Danbury, Lawsonville, King, or other.? |
RE: do you eat the heart??
i generally save the liver and heart for the pooch ...he likes it. know a couple people who eat that stuff but never had the nerve to try it myself.

RE: do you eat the heart??
Its practically a rituall at deer camp for me to make my famous deer stew. When the first deer arrives at camp, the heart , lungs and liver along with some back strap go straight into a pot with some veggies and simmered to a wonderfully delectuble dish. Mmmm-Mmmm. One of our guests one time said we were cannibals, but after some coercing he was moping up his second helping with bread. LOL.
Oh ya, your not a true hunter if you dont utilize the whole deer, (ya thats it ) utilize the whole deer. Skin for clothing and shoes, bones for tools, horns for weapons, teeth for jewelry, hoofs for gun racks, yep your not a true hunter. ![]() |
RE: do you eat the heart??
Love the heartThe first deer shot in our camp, will have its heart and liver fried up in a pan and we all use tooth picks to eat it with, dipping it into three home made sauces. medium, hot, and volcanic.

The lungs actually cook up to a meaty consistency, much like the liver I suppose.
