Default How Did Your Gun Perform in the Field?

If you got a deer while gun hunting this year, I would like to know what your setup was and how it got the job done:

What caliber did you use?

What bullet did you use?

How many grains was the bullet?

How far was the shot?

Where did you hit the deer?

How far did the deer run after it was shot?

Roughly how big was the exit hole (if any)?

How much did the deer weigh dressed (if you know that)?

What caliber did you use? 7mm Rem Mag

What bullet did you use? Nosler Ballistic Tip & Hornady Interlock SP

How many grains was the bullet? 150 Gr

How far was the shot? 250 & 150

Where did you hit the deer? Lungs & Lungs exited in front of opposite shoulder

How far did the deer run after it was shot? 20 yards & 0 yards

Roughly how big was the exit hole (if any)? 2-3" I guess (big enough)

How much did the deer weigh dressed (if you know that)? approx 225-250 (hide on)
I consider it good performance I usually only use NBT or SST for deer but the one deer was taken on a Moose/Whitetail combo hunt so I decided to use the Hornady interlock vs Ballistic tips due to them swamp donkey's. Incidently the interlock perform well on a calf moose on double lung shot of 100 yards or so, the exit size was about 2" and the calf dropped in it's tracks weight more than a deer maybe 400 - 500 lbs.

I use the .270 Savage 110 that my Grandfather bought fifty years ago. The scope is a store brand that he bought for 19 dollars at Wards about the same time, it's a 4x42. I shoot 130 grain Remmington Core-Lokt bullets. It shoots a three inch group at 100 yards after God knows how many shots have been fired through it. Deer never runs more than 30 yards, and leaves an exit wound the size of a fifty cent piece. Last deer I got was about 130 pounds.

knight disc, 50 cal, 190 grain, one deer ran 10 yards, the other about 300 hundred but it was a poor shot. The exit wound was mighty big. the one that ran 300 was a gut shot, the 10 yard run, well the deer was runnin my way and i shot him under the head a few inches. it fell got up and ran about 10 yards.

Several deer being pushed thru. this one was the first so I took him. He jinked to the left just as I was squeezing off aiming at center of the chest. I have a 32 mm simmons scope that came with the gun. It really needs to be replaced. It's accurate but I don't think it is sufficient at getting quickly on target. The wounds were devestating. The first round nearly field dressed the buck for me. Second completely destroyed the shoulder joint and made the front left let unusable. Third took off a rear foot. This deer still ran another 100 yards before going down.
