make a cage, or box out of 1/4" hardware cloth. its heavy wire screen. bugs can get in to do the dirty work, but mice can't get in to chew the bone. those dermisid beetles would be the best way to go. and the quickest. i may try the ant idea, although i don't have fire ants here. some guys have taken their racks to the car wash and hit them with the power washer, after soaking them in a bucket to get the meat good and soft/rotten
