I have actually caught a deer in my younger days, ran him down and jumped on his back, put him in a submission hold just to prove to my partner that I could, then let him go. This was a wild, freeroaming deer. Of course my partner always interrupts at this point in the story and tells everyone it was a 50 lb yearling.
I' ve also wrestled a few gators, live caught some nice rattlesnakes and moccasins, possums, even chased a few rabbits. The whole time you gotcherself cached up in some ' ol tree. Ya need to broaden your horizons Bowhunter
Wait a minute!! Is your name Steve? I have a sneaking suspicion you may be the Crocidile Hunter himself!! If so please accept my apologies.

I have cousin that smokes pot every day. I love him like a brother and would do most anything for him. But when we hunt together he leaves it at the house. And when he comes to my house he doesn' t have it with him. I don' t think you should do any drugs or acohol before or during a hunt. You put yourself in danger and others also. I have never tried any illegal drug and hope I never do. But the woods is definitely not the place to be smoking it. I' m not self righteous and I' m not without fault myself, the only thing righteous in me is Jesus. By the way, try getting high on Jesus. His retirement plan can' t be beat!!!!!!

you know at one time I thought I might like to keep reading on this board and kinda become constant poster on this board. All I see is a bunch of the same type of people you run into at the gun ranges who think they are all high and mighty. Pot' s a Drug...... So what. Coffee, Beer, Asprin, sugar. It' s all drugs. I dont use any but it' s been my experience that a pothead hunting is about 100 time safer then someone drinking. Currently at my lease the 2 younger guys who I know that smoke (dont know if they do it hunting or not) have shot once and have one kill for it. The old timers on the lease that take a 6-pack with them out in the woods have taken about 15 shots this year with 2 deer to show for it. Some people I would trust with my life after being locked in a closet with 100$ of pot smokeing and others I would not trust with a dime anytime.

Also. POT is not illegal everywhere in the US. 7 states have it legalised for medical use. I know a person in California who gets it regular for some problems he has. He is suposed to " Drive with Caution" but I supose some of you narrow minded fools want him to be hung from a stoplight for that also. It' s just so easy to not try and think and understand something fully for a lot of people. It' s a shortcut to thinking to just hate and quote laws.

I thought we were all hunters. I seam to see a lot of Haters on this board. Some hiding behind a law. Others the bible. Too bad some of you just need to Hate to feel good about yourself.

austinbrian, I agree 100% I`d rather be around guys that have smoked anyday than guys that are hung over or are drinking while hunting .

I believe the point to be heard here is IF IT AFFECTS YOUR ABILITY TO BE SAFE it has no place in the woods. Whether its bud or bud light, if you say it doesnt affect people take it to a scientist and prove your theory then it will not be illegal to drive or hunt or do whatever you like while under the influence. Until then if you are doing it is illegal and WRONG.[:@] The majority of this post has been personal b.s. attacks back and forth[:' (]. The point is safety not who is on a high horse[:-].

i would like to thank those of you who actually answered my question. but, like i said, i am a former pot smoker and no i'm not too awful concerned about the safety aspects of the subject due to the fact that pot doesn't make you see little purple smerfs not does it make you see a deer that is not there. i've been more "impaired" from a hangover than i ever have been while toking on a bowl. i did it for 16 years and never once had an accident or mistake in kill!!!
thanks for all the responses!!!

Hi folks, Its been a very long time since I've logged in, but what the heck is this? Hey Guy, smoking pot is no good in the woods! no good man! Just one mistake and someone can get hurt. I used to roll a fatty once in a while when I was young, but guy, not with a gun or bow in our hands. I seen a friend stoned try to climb up into his tree stand and fall half way up! It does not matter why, or if it does work on deer!, the point is no pot or booze while hunting thats the unwritten rule... The whole question of why a deer is atteacted to the smell or if gives you more patience is not the point! Just do what most of us do, hunt your A$$ off! and watch the results. But then again what do I know I've only been hunting 40 years and bagged over 50 deer!

everyone has had very good points and i take the "constructive" criticism to heart. a couple of you say that this thread "sucks", well obviously it wasn't too bad, just look at the responses. like i said, i know longer smoke pot (on a regular basis) and haven't smoke pot in the woods for a couple of years now, but i still say to each his own. happy hunting

Its real simple, drugs (including alcohol) and guns don't mix; regardless if your hunting or not. To many acidents can occur. For hunters to do it, it just increases the negative image the anti's already have and also gives them plenty of ammo for them to use against us. Patience and luck are pretty much the factors that go into a succesful hunt. In my opinion it's pathetic to get high to beable to harvest an animal.
