What comes to mind?
A little short story on how I got to this...
I put out the camo to catch some nice autmn breeze today, before putting them away for opener on 10/15. I decided to check the climber out too. It worked great. My backyard runs along a small strip of woods with an immensely popular trout stream behind it. I got up maybe 8-10 ft. and sat. My day was semi-clear of any chores. Before I knew it, 25 minutes went by. It was peaceful, I wasnt hunting but rather just in the backyard. I thought about opening morning, how the weather man keeps saying rain and gusty winds for 10/15. My mind wandered to the fact that I DIDNT CARE IT WAS GOING TO BE RAINING AND WINDY, I was going to be out there facing nature in all her glory. Man I cant wait. I looked at my watch and the time flew by.
So that brought me to the question. What do you think about when you are in the woods? I mean besides the hunting aspect.

RE: What comes to mind?
The same thing happened to me the other week. I went out in the woods, the first time since last winter Coyote/Bobcat hunting. Well while I made my first stand, I sat there thinking this is great feels good out here no stress,or anyone to bother you. I could of fell asleep out there. Thats the best place to be.

Where the hell is he
I knew this stand would suck
Damn its cold
my back hurts- this seat blows
How far away is that tree
Wow 35 yds - thought it was 20 yds
DEER< DEER <DEER......Nope just a squirrel
man I hate squirrels
I can' t believe I forgot my sandwich
Man I am hungry
What time is it
I got to pee
What, its switching from North to south now
The weatherman sucks
Lets count trees.1,2,3......
DEER<DEER<DEER..........
Same squirrel, stupid
Does this camo make me look fat
Gonna be a long season if this keeps up
Is that deer poo under my stand - thats a good sign
Where the heck are the deer - not here
What was I thinking when I picked this tree.
I am tired
My back hurts again
there isn' t a buck for 100 miles I think
Nocturnal...can you say nocturnal
where is my watch - how long have I been sitting here??
5 mins - only five minutes[]

LMAO Rack, that was good!
I try to keep my mind clear while hunting and stay mentally focused, but on occasion my mind will wander. Usually I have thoughts of past hunting experiences, big bucks I have hunted and the lessons they have taught me. And of course I daydream about the 300+ pound non-typical I am going to shoot

RE: What comes to mind?
I was sitting in the stand this morning and at one point I was thinking about how much I love being out there to watch the deer, turkey, squirrels etc... and how beautiful of a morning it was. Most times I like to play a game while in the stand. It goes like this. For every deer I spot before it comes into the opening, I get a point. For every time I don' t see the deer before it pops out, the deer get a point. It may be a silly game but it really helps me get tuned in, more aware of my surroundings and helps me spot deer sooner. It may sound like a silly game to some but trust me, it certainly will sharpen the skill of spotting deer earlier. -- CDH
