Shed Antler Traps
#21

The chicken wire thing a buck would just rip right out of the ground and shake it off. The other methods are pretty safe.
Ive never heard of a deer being killed by an antler trap.
Still more fun to just go look for them though.

And as Rock said, a chicken wire thing would get shredded by most bucks if the antlers aren't ready to drop.
I'm not seeing many, if any bucks being killed by such tactics.

I do walk around to find sheds on public property where there are mass properties to check out and scout. But the shed antler trap is for the very small private property that I hunt that has many bucks that wander through often. I could walk and check for sheds in probably no more than 20 minutes. I figure by feeding and using a trap it will up the odds of a buck dropping his antlers on this property. And I like the bucket and hay bales idea for traps but not a fan of using wire. If theres any chance of injuring the deer then there is no reason to risk it just for some antlers.

Set a few post and use bungees as the "fence"

Something to think about I guess. Ive never heard of a deer being killed by an antler trap but that don't mean its never happened.
