tearing up the acorns
#11
Im hunting a large white oak and they are hitting them but there are so many that they are spread out.
I go across the road to where I havent hunted in a few years and they are hitting one there that looks like a herd of hogs. Its been logged out and not as many white oaks there. I cleared some limbs and brush and will be waiting for a west or north wind. Looks like it may be a while before we got one though.

This has been my experience as well. White oaks don't yeild acorns every year, it's every 2 years, and sometimes every 3rd year if it's a very old mature tree. Acorn drop is often tree specific, depending on the maturity of the tree. In other words, all red oaks for instance, don't drop acorns at the same time in a given area.

Yes, they are tearing up the acorns in TN too. Arrowed a doe last Saturday as she was chomping on them. And, yes, they will eat them until they are gone. How long will that last? Depends on how many acorns you have. Last year they were eating acorns exclusively, it seemed, until the start of November. There were acorns everywhere. This year appears to be quite similar. If acorns are on the ground, forget your fields...get in the woods.
