Default Thanks everyone! I decided

to go with a 7mm-08. I don' t think it will kick a whole lot more than the .243 & should have a little better knock down power in case the shot isn' t perfect. Thanks for all you input!

I' m 14, started on a .22 LR...winchester model 67A single shot bolt action, 50 years old, the gun my dad started on. I eventually moved up to a .270 Win, a Remington 700 mountain rifle DM. Light, powerful, and deadly. For a 10 year old, start off with a .243 or 7mm-08 if he' s experienced in guns. If not, get him a ruger 10/22. Cheap, reliable, adn you can add on about anything you can think of to that gun. My cousin is small framed, age 12, he got a Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08. synthetic stock, darn nice gun, he loves it. Got another cousin, he' s tall and lanky, but loves the little model 7 in 7mm-08 he' s got. .243 and 7mm-08 shoot nice. Same for the .257 Roberts or ,260 remington.

When I was 10 I started out with a .30-06, but that was just me... I didnt like the kick so I sold it and bought a Remington Model 700 .270, and I love it. I' ve heard stories about how .270s kick harder than a .30-06, but they dont, it' s light, accurate, and will work for just about anything from deer to elk, to bear, or cougar (At least thats what I use mine for ). If you buy a used one theyre relatively inexpensive. [:-]
