One of two things happened...The farmer didn't know how to set his combine properly and left a lot of corn in the field or...Ya'll had a dry year which ended up with the ears being smaller then usual...In this situation you have to adjust the picker bars in very tight or the cob gets shelled at the rollers...Sometimes you can't get them in close enough for the stalk to pass through and pick the ears off as well...

Looks like the farmer needs to upgrade his combine. He lost a lot of corn in that field. I also think it was either squirrels or coons that carried the corn in the woods to eat it in a safer area.

KY (no, not jelly) and NC - Your responses seem to make the most sense. And yes, NC, we had a VERY dry year.
I was hoping there would be good reason for the deer to keep coming out to the field. Aside from the occasional corn kernels, I guess not!
