i was out in the back woods elk hunting, i hunted all the way back to camp. I got so caught up in all the stories i forgot to unload my rifle. An hour passed and i was unloading my lever action .308 on my lap. i ejected all the shells. One of my buddies asked to see my rifle at that moment. I handed him my rifle not remembering the shells were on my person. Lets just say 3 of the 5 shells fell into the campfire. Nobody noticed till they started going off.

After a morning hunt, I propped my rifle on my truck tire. You probably know where this going. I went to go get some lunch. That sinking feeling hit me when I noticed my rifle wasn't in my truck. When I got back to the camp, there my rifle lay in the middle of the road, tire tracks pasted on my scope. Needless to say, my scope was knocked off just a bit. I've actually done that twice. The other time was a shotgun. I have a nice dent in the ventilated rib of that gun. That's just one of many stupid things I have done when hunting.

By having or should have learned by now... to NEVER leave your weapon somewhere and to have it at your side always or be carrying it.
So many times I've left my bow or firearm temporary only to have the deer I want to shoot come out at the very moment when I need my gun or bow and don't have it!
Last time this happened, I was sitting on my hunting chair along with my bipod. I was sitting on the edge of a large clearcut watching the edge when deer come into the clearing. There was one limbing hanging down out in front of me about 35 yards. I left my gun at the chair and walked over to the limb to remove it. At this moment I'm telling myself... "Now watch a deer come out right when I leave my gun."
Well, I got to the limb, broke it softly and looked down the edge only to see 2 deer step out. I quickly entered the woods and shuffled back to my gun in the woods saying to myself...
"You're funny God!"
