1in high will let you hold dead on out to 300yds with a 130gn bullet. i shoot 140gn in my 270 and that how i sight in . i have killed deer out to 460 yds with a 1in high zero,i just hold on the top of the shoulder.

Because you say a 200 yard shot is going to be rare, try this. Sight your rifle dead on at 100 yards, then check where it hits at 50, 150, 200 and 250 ... maybe even 300 just for kicks. That should definitely cover your particular situation as you have described it. If you are not satisfied with the point of impact across the typical hunting scenario range(s) you expect, then tweak the elevation so that you are.

I shoot a .270 with 150 grain bullets and I have it sighted in for dead on at 100 yards. The majority of my shots for whitetails are 50 to 150 yards. The .270 is a pretty flat shooting rifle so if you are dead on at 200 yrds, you should be shooting about an inch high at 100 yards. Either way, if you are aiming where you should be, an inch either way isn't going to make much of a difference, its a dead deer no matter how you look at it.

A 1" high zero at 100 will be atleast 6" low, and probably 8" low at 300 yds.
NO FREAKING WAY can you hold on a deer and hit it at 460 yards.
It will be fine to 200 yds.
You can make a 270 point and shoot to 300, but you have to go atleast 2.5"(3" is probably closer) high at 100 to do it.
