A 270 sighted 1" high at 100 will be dead on at 172.5 yards (scope 1.5" above bore, firing a 130 gr hornady with a BC of .409 at 3000 fps) drops 8.5" at 300 yards and 34.5" low at 460 to hold top of the shoulder at 460 you would have to sight in at 395 (+6.5" at 100) yards to be -9.3" at 460

If you want to only shoot to 200 yards then sight in your gun 1" high at 100 yards. This will put you 1" low at 200 yards.

Very true. I might use that one sometime!
The 270(or even most other calibers) can reach much farther with a higher zero. I guess if you dont need it, why bother? Nothing wrong with a 1" high zero in the woods, but you will need to know the range of a longer shot much sooner than you would have if you raised the zero another inch or two.
You are basically turning your high performance 1/4 mile 270 into a old 30-30 with a dead on at 100 zero.
