I inherited my 336 twenty years ago and sense then I and my son (who is making a career of the Navy) have taken several bucks and does with it. Can't wait to take my grandsons hunting with it.

I've never seen the stainless model, nice rifle. I bought a new 336 in 1972 while stationed at Maxwell AFB, I think I paid $74 for it. I kept it a few years and sold it, wish I had of kept it.

I got to finally shoot it this afternoon. A buddy of mine runs an indoor pistol range, and I went there after hours. I don't plan on ever hunting without a scope but I had to sight in the iron sight just in case I ever need them. The rifle shot beautifully, I've been using a 30-06 and a 12 guage so long for deer that I forgot that a gun doesn't have to beat you up to be effective. The groups that I was getting were about 1" at 25 yards, and with my eyes that's good since I can't see the rear sight anymore.[&:] I used the ballistic calculator on the Norma website and with the 30-30 combo that I have, a 25 yard zero will also be sighted in at 100 yards. Now I just need to put a scope on it before deer season.

Congratulations! My son and I each have the same rifle with a Leupold 2-7X scope: not effective for 200 yard shots but a very good choice for the usual 30 to 80 yard shots here in the woods of PA. I have only used standard round-nose 30-30 rounds, but I may someday try the Leverevolution to extend the range.
