Your own single shot or bolt action 30.06 can do just as much as if not more damage in the wrong hands. Distance and accuracy come into play also, not just pulling the trigger quickly. shotguns can do it and even your hoyt could do it..

I pretty well lost all respect for you at this point, sorry.. You should really take a closer look at what your saying cuz your off base.

Banning semi autos would just be one more step in banning all of them. they can all do damage in the wrong hands..

do you think for one minute that if they take semi autos away from law abiding citizens and hunters that the criminals will just walk their unregistered guns right on in and turn them over.. Ya right.. The ones breaking the law will be the only ones left with them. Full Auto is already against the law.. ok fine, I can see that and I don't argue it.. But semi autos?? Give me a break..

I have to disagree with you. A restriction of semi-automatic rifles would be a first step toward much more restrictive gun legislation. It is true that some Semi-automatic's can be made automatic relatively easily but that is against the law. It seems to reason that if a person is willing to break the law buy altering their firearm then they would be willing to break the law and find a way to get an automatic on the black market. Something that is not that hard to do either.

I have a Marlin Model 60 .22 rifle. It is a tube fed semi-automatic. Should that be illegal also? What about handguns that are semi-automatic?

Like I said, I fully expect many to disagree with my thinking. You agree how easy it is to turn a semi automatic into an atuto (and it is) and say it's against the law (and it is), but so is killing police officers. But they do it all the time![:@]

By that rationale, if bolt actions had been illegal, JFK would not have been assassinated. ANY form of gun control is a futile attempt as far as public safety goes. What it does do is make it easier for a government to control its citizens without the fear of an uprising, you know, like the uprising that started the revolution. That is a tactic that Hitler used with his people.

Britain has a total gun ban that just started with various individual forms of strict control on handguns and specific weapons. It hasn't worked for them as they have seen violent gun crimes rise since 1997, the only difference is that a law abiding citizen there can't defend themselves. Same thing in Australia.

Early in, I hope your just a kid. If you are, don't worry, you will grow out of the phase that you are in. I'm not saying this being a smart a$$, I mean it. I think most of us went through a period in our lives where we were wrong on some very important issues. Your heart is in the right place, it's your brain that needs to be dislodged from the uncomfortable spot it has been crammed in. These times are tuff, and the way people feel about these kind of issues could make them draw a line in the sand.

Yes, you guys are right. No matter what regulations are out there guns will somehow get into the hands of the worst kind of people. I was looking at it much too idealistically. Just for the record, I do own a shotgun.

The Second Amendment has absolutely NOTHING to do with hunting and sport shooting!
The Second Amendment is the individual right to protect ourselves from those who would oppress us, including our own government, should they turn on us!
EVERYTHING we as Americans hold dear is protected by the Second Amendment!
And as our Forefathers wisely said, "Anyone who would trade freedom for security, deserves neither!"

Sadly, you are very correct! The Constitution has been trampled and torn apart since the early 1800's!
The wisdom of our Forefathers was to trust in individual rights and state rights, fearing what a central government could become! The federal government did not have ANY power that was not given to it by the people!
That is certainly not the case now! I doubt that we can go back totally now, but we need to get a grip on things before all of our rights are given to the U.N. and America as we know it ceases to exist!

if they would take away my semi auto 30-06 remington 742, which has been in my family for almost 30 years, i sure bet they wouldnt replace it with one they felt was considered "safe enough" for me... a hunter who has taken the time to learn how to handle the firearm safely, and a law abiding citizen. Why should I have my gun taken away because some idiot went and shot up a bunch of people? I sure dont wanna give up my rilfe.
