youd be surprised what a .22 hornet does with 45 gr hollow points something like 400 ftlbs at a 100 yds

Dang...I knew someone would start putting tables up here...
I've got a stat for you...I've killed at least 175 deer with a .243...Out to 300 yards and frankly most deer hunters don't need to be
shooting deer past 300 yards...(RR excluded...)...
If you want a long range bullet for the .243, look at the Federal Premium 85gr HPBT, it starts out at 3300 fps...I've killed about 30 with this and
a couple of buddies have killed another 25 or so...I've also used about 12 factory loadings on deer with this cartridge and they all killed deer...
Some were better for 200 yards and some ran a little further than others, but they all worked and the average hunter won't tell much of a difference...
Go to a gun store and see how many loadings they stock for a .260 or a 25-06...These guys stock what sells...You'll see more .243 rounds avaliable than the other 2 combined...
If you don't handload, this needs to be considered...

25-06 all the way. excellent deer round. the .243is a good deer round too, but deer size game is about its limit. the 25-06 enters the next level with the ability to shoot 115-120 grain bullets. with a premium 115,117, or 120 grain bullet the 25-06 is an adequate round for elk and moose. some people probably disagree but thats just my opinion.
