I get a different impression watching the video. I have watched the video a couple of times now and it appears to be an obvious fake to me. It has definitely been edited and of course it is of poor quality with only fleeting glances of the panther. If you were filming a panther why would you keep cutting away to the deer? Why is the panther cooperative enough to go back and forth so we can see him but just not get too good a look? Why is the deer still hanging around? I would think the cougar, boy and photograper might be enough to send him running away. The panning back and forth to the deer seems to be done to somehow prove the film is legitimate. If this film were legitimate wouldn't it be featuredon the front cover ofevery hunting and science magazine in the country? I saw an hour show on the history channel about black panthers and they had several pieces of footage that were of much better quality than this one and they were able to determine thatnone of them werelegitimate.
The video I saw of the great white shark jumping out of the water and biting the helicopter was much more convincing for me. It looked real. This thing jumped up out of the water and grabbed the helicopter and brought it down! How about all of the things we see in movies? The impossible is done every day.Scenes arefaked to the point where it all looks real. The events faked in film appearto only belimited by imagination. In this time of advanced technology I don't know that any of us can rely too much on a video. Far from being hard to fake, it appears that anything is possible with a video.

Here is a better video of the one posted above. I don't know how you could fake this. He keeps cutting to the deer because he is taping their reaction. You can hear the little boy saying " there he is again, dad". Call it what you will but I don't think this is fake.

Jay, I don't remember where the video came from. I do remember it was in a Youtube type format, a short video. My brother mentioned it to me a few days ago and we are supposed to go hunting tomorrow night so I will ask him if he knows where it is on the Net. It would pass my test for being real if I didn't know it would be impossible. Whoevermade the film did anexcellent job.

What black cat could have been seen if there is no black panther/cougar? I knowan older couple in Livingston Parish, Louisiana who claimed they saw a large black cat coming out to sun on a large downed oak tree about 200 yards behind their house. This happened back in the mid 80's. There were supposed to be no cougars in Louisiana, but last year Louisiana Sportsman magazine reported new evidence to the contrary.

There can be several explanations for the sightings. Hereare only a couple.
1. Light conditions. Cougars can easily appear very dark in low light.
2. Jaguarundi These animals look very much like a Cougar and are sometimes black. I doubt many of us could tell this animal from a Cougar they look so much alike. I didn't even know they existed until I started researching the black panther thing. I think this animal would account for many of the sightings in the south.
3. Belief. I think many people believe black panthers roam the US ( I know I did until recently) and they would be the scariest thing you would expect to encounter so I think a scary situation, belief, expectation, imagination, all may play a role.
4. Bobcats can be very dark or look very dark when seen unexpectedly. They would also appear larger under stressful situations.
Consider this: several people on this thread alone have either encountered a black panther themselves or know people who have. Take this sample across the country and you have literally thousands of sightings. There simply cannot be that many black panthers roaming the US even if they did exist. My feeling is that at least some of the factors above probably play a role in most of the sightings.
I read where Game Rangers say they receive thousands of reports of cougars/panthers across the country every year and most of the reportsare of black animals.

when i was growing up there was a story about "the blue mountain panther" the story was always told around the camp fire while camping in the blue mountains to make sure all the kids stayed in there tents. well i found this while surfing the net. and there has been video footage of this panther, but like usual its not very good footage LOL. i always remember seeing it on the news.
