295.gr ballistic Powerbelt Performance??
Im shooting the 295gr. ballistic powerbelts with 100gr. 777 pellets.
Ive killed 2 deer since the opener of gun season with it.
My question is that On both deer were shot just behind the shoulder, I had no exit on either deer,Both of them went no further than 30yds. I didnt try to recover the bullets, The doe I field dressed and couldnt find it and the buck I was thinking of mounting so I didnt field dress him. Both were no farther than 50 yds.
Anyone have an idea why I didnt have an exit with these shots??

I quit using pb's, and switched to hornady xtp's. The pb's were accurate, but would not exit and left little or no blood to trail. Ask this ? on the bp forum and they will give you more technical answers.

I have used the Power Belt Aerotip, 270 gr. in a 50cal. ML. I too have had what I call un-desired bullet performance , but only on realyy close shots ... say 50 yards are less. Very seldom do I get pass throughs, which I prefer if for no other reason to know the penetration was 100%, and of course the blood trailing is usually easier on full poass throughs. The load I use does group great and I have taken several decent deer to to 125 yards or so. I have failed to recover one, and to this day am conviunced I missed. But I am not 100 oercent sure. My doogs never found a blood trail and that made me feel pretty certain it was a miss. I hope so. I plan to use up the supply of these I have left and then try something else.

I use the 270's as well. The only time I didn't get a pass thru was on a large buck last year...when it lodged in the opposite shoulder.
I've heard horror stories of PB's breaking up...especially with Magnum loads...but have never experienced it with 100gr of 777.

powerbelts are junk. the hornady's or red hot bullets are worlds better. I tried powerbelts for 2 seasons and had similar results. IN MY GUN, the red hots are unbeatable for accuracy, knockdown and expansion.
