295.gr ballistic Powerbelt Performance??
295.gr ballistic Powerbelt Performance??
Im shooting the 295gr. ballistic powerbelts with 100gr. 777 pellets.
Ive killed 2 deer since the opener of gun season with it.
My question is that On both deer were shot just behind the shoulder, I had no exit on either deer,Both of them went no further than 30yds. I didnt try to recover the bullets, The doe I field dressed and couldnt find it and the buck I was thinking of mounting so I didnt field dress him. Both were no farther than 50 yds.
Anyone have an idea why I didnt have an exit with these shots??

Over expanded, or in your case, they may have fragmented.
Drop your load down to One 50 grain pellet and One 30gr pellet and this will help tame the bullet so it does not over expand. Or you can just switch to the beefier 300gr platinum.

too hot of a charge. the max charge is 80grs of loose pyrodex rs, p, and triple 7.
if you can find some 30gr pellets if you want to keep shooting pellets. I would switch to loose powders (lower cost)
most likely the bullets blow up.
congrats on the 2 deer
(been hang around fg too long )

I followed the reccomendations; 80-100gr for up to 200yds?? What happened; Could it be that the shots were a farther distance?/

If your shots were at 50 yards, the 80gr charge would have been the best. I see a lot of guys here who say they can shoot out to 200 yards but every year, its the same ol 30-50 yard shot. My brother in law is one of those guys too that think he needs to be set up at 200 yards, He took his deer with his centerfire at 50 yards if that.
With powerbelts, less powder = better bullet performance.
With that 295gr and 80gr RS (Or pellet load) Sighted dead on at 100 yards, you'll be 7" low at 150 yards. Thats a piece of cake especially when you are scoped.
