Is it too late to plant food plots in Indiana?

Bow season starts next week, and shotgun starts in mid-November. I am hunting a few hundred acres of nothing but timber. There are a few small (.25-.5 acre) clearings that we could plant. The question is if there is time for a plot to grow and attract deer before shotgun? If so, what should we plant?
Thanks.
Thanks.

It depends on what you're planting, something relatively quick growing such as wheat or oats couldbe up in time for firearms, but it would be competing directly with available wild mast and ag crops. A better bet would be to plant a bit later for some "nibble stops"during late archery.Your question would get more answers in the Wildlife Management forum where it belongs.

The farmer who we lease our land off of in NE Indiana planted us sugar beets in late summer a few years ago. Of course when they came up heathy, they sowed wheat in Octoberand sprayed the field...thus killing the beets.
