I would go with transition areas as swampbuck
mentioned.If it has alot of hunting pressure as you said,I would look for thick areas as escape routes and try to ambush the deer there.I have used a decoy before and shot two bucks with it but,I also had a small tract of land almost to myself.One was shot in the pre rut,and one during the rut.

Early season I would agree to find a transition area. Look for a spot where a few trails come together. Another thing to remember is if the deer are showing up too late to shoot move closer to the bedding cover. Just the opposite if they are spooking out of thier beds on the way in. Calling and decoys work well if used correctly. If not then they tend to just educate the deer in the area. I usually stay away from any calls or decoys until I have determined that other strategies such as stand placement have not worked.

The best place to set a stand would be in any tree in a well used deer area. And don't rely a lot on calls in early season, except for a fawn bleat. Calls should be used mostly around the rut for best results. Good luck.
