Man, you could have bought her the Taurus PT111 PRO, they come in pink. I antually have the PT111 (in black) and I love it. It is the gun I take with me while working. They are a small gun, easy to conceal, and the grips are long enough to get a good grip on them. I too am wanting to buy my wife a gun for home defence when I am away, and it will most likely be the Taurus 38 revolver with the crimson trace grips.

I had a S+W J frame w Crimson Trace grip. While a great gun and easy to carry, if you get a light one (mine was 16oz and was .357) it will kick quite a bit. With .38 it wasnt too bad but could still potentially bother some. Mine didnt have a rear sight and I didnt like that feature either. My girlfriend is 95lbs and loves to shoot my other K frame .357. But it weighs about 30oz and absorbs much of the recoil, not exactly a carrying gun.
The crimson trace is definitely the way to go.
