The 25-06 is a great round for whitetails. I have a friendthat has taken hundreds of deer with just about every gun you can think of and claims the 25-07 is the best in his opinion. He routinely take deer at 400+ yards on powerlines with his 25-06.

i forgot to add, i shoot 117 gr. Federal Premiums out of mine with great success. both deer i shot last year did not run more than 20 yards before piling up. they were also pass throughs on each one.

I probably shoul've gotten a 25-06 instead of the 257 Roberts but I just have to be the guy that when someone comes up to and asks what your shooting and tell them a 257 or 6.5x55 or 307 winchester you either get that real funny look or one of admiration and a comment like my grandaddy used to shoot one of them. Yea just have to be different.

Great round for deer, nice and flat, decent energy and moderate recoil even in a light gun. The three rounds you will see mentioned for low recoil for small shooters will be the 25-06, .243 and 7mm-08. I personally own a .243 but it's more of a varmint gun since you can't hunt with a rifle in lower Michigan.
