I like using portable treestands as well. I seem to have alot more confidence in my ability to harvest game when I am sitting 20 feet up.

i prefer ground but also use treestands quite a bit. I think its more of a challenge when you hunt from the ground. Its easier for the animal to see you or smell you from the ground.

Where I hunt in Minnesota the brush is so thick that you really don' t have a choice, and have to hunt from a stand. When I' m lucky enough to draw a tag in the SD Black Hills, I do a lot more hunting from the ground because it' s much more open. Of the two, I' d have to say I prefer being on the ground - more mobil.

It depends on the day and my state of mind. Some days I like nothing better than sitting in the stand and some days I want to take the hunt to the critter and I either spot and stalk or still hunt. Guess that is a long, roundabout way of saying I don' t have a preference, I just love to be out there.

My favourite is still hunting, followed by tracking, tandem hunting, driving with dogs, driving with men. Stump sitting and tree sitting are about as exciting as white bread or bolt action rifles.

I take most of my deer sitting on the ground ,next to a tree trunk.Have taken a few out of tree stands, but like close to the ground better.

for rifle hunting(all ive done so far) i like to ambush them in a thicket when they are being pushed around by other hunters and running for cover...nothing like being right up close and personal with your query...with about 1 million+ hunters out on the opening day of rifle season patience will pay off if your in the right spot..people are usually up and moving by 9 or 10 pushing deer right into our thicket...we have a good success rate doing this..it took a while to find that little spot though..its well worth it..some state have long rilfe seasons and that may be harder to do...i am buying a bow and a stand for next year..i will hunt in the acorns and such places catching them eating for the winter...
