My brother and I have been hunting an area here close to home in Hartford, Ohio. This area we hunt at is about 100 acres and this 100 acres is completely fenced in with an about 4 foot fence. Will this fence deter deer from entering this land? Does it have an effect on them at all?...And how important is a water source by your stand location, because this area we hunt has a water stream very close by.

i dont think a four foot fence will keep many deer out of your property. young fawns may have trouble getting across it at first but after a while it shouldnt be an issue. I believe that if your property has something on it that they want, they will come to it.

If you have thick bedding areas and a year round food supply on the 100 acres, you've got it made. Water is essential and you have it.As for the fence, four feet is nothing to a deer. They can jump a fence much higher than that. As CCSD34 stated, the young fawns may have trouble for a while, but not too long.
