Fixing Broken Points -Your opinion`
#1
I was lucky enough to take a really nice buck for our farm this year - in 20+ yrs only ever hunting this property - its my best, and will be my 1st mounted deer. The deer has a broken brow. My initial feeling was: this is how the deer is and it should remain the same in the mount. Now as I think about it - I wonder if getting the tine repaired might be a good thing.
I don't know - just kicking it around - what do you all think?

my buddy killed a big 10 pt and two points where broken off and he had it repaired.he wasn't happy after they where fixed cause thats not what it looked like when he killed it.in my opinion i would leave it the way it is cause it gives it charecter.

FH, nice deer! All that hard work is paying off I see
I have 2 bucks mounted, and one had about 1" broke off its G3 (over 5"), I got it fixed and am glad I did. Now...that being said, if the whole G3 was broke off, I probably wouldn't have done it.
In your case, I would probably do it...but either way it will look nice mounted, and will mean alot to you! Go with your gut...whatever you think will make you happy.

Depends on the person and the taxidermist. If it were me, I'd only do it if I had pictures of the deer prior to the tines being broken. I use game cameras from June to January, so I have a pretty good idea about the deer in my area.
The biggest deer I ever killed had2 broken tines (and was still the biggest). He's on my wall, broken tines and all, but that's how he looked the only time I saw him. I really have no idea "exactly" how he would have looked otherwise, so I didn't consider having him fixed.
To each his own in my opinion.

thought about it, and wanted to clarify. say it was an 8 and you shot off a point , or it fell down and smashed the rack on a rock, someone stepped on it, etc... AFTER the kill, then i would get it fixed.
thanks,

Your call, IMO leave it be unless you find the piece that actually broke off then add it back on.
Was a great story about a huge buck killed last year in Wisconsin where the main beam had a piece broken
off and another hunter found the piece 1 1/2 miles away and B&C might allow it for scoring because it is the original. This buck scored over 200". I believe the article was in Wisconsin Sportsman magazine and I will see if I can find my copy and give a follow up. They were talking actually 214 with the piece added.
