Sources of Wind Direction
#1
Other than sticking you head out the door to determine wind direction the morning of your hunt, what source do you use that forcasts the wind direction in your area. I have tried using weather.com, but they are consistantly wrong. This morning, for example, they forcast a wind from the S/SW. When I got to my hunting site, it was quite obvious that the wind was coming directly from the east. I had to change stand locations at the last minute.
I would like to preplan where I go in the morning. Is there another source on the internet somewhere or do you guys use the "head-out-the-door" method.

I use www.intellicast.com but before I go to the stand I'll take a compass out and double check. I try to have stands set up for different wind directions.

I drive about 20-30 minutes to my hunting location. I look at flags along the route to see what direction the wind is blowing in. If I can figure out if the wind is generally blowing from the south, west, north, or east, that is usually enough detail to plan what stand I go to. I choose different stands -- actually improvised ground blinds -- based on the wind and also based on just wanting to have some variety in my hunting.

I usually check several diff. ones but this one: http://www.wunderground.com/seems to be correct more than any others I have found.
