Now what do I do???

Earlier today I recieved a phone call from camp.It was myfather-in-law who advised me that he shot a nice 8 pointer (approx 17" spread/130 class) from my primary hunting stand [&:]. I couldn't be there this weekend due to work but I will be there next week. My question is, should I relocate to a new spot or would this stand/location still be a good spot? It's located in between a river bottom & one of our primary food plots. Any advice would be great, thanks guys.

I'd still give it a shot. That buck may have just been passing through and your father in law got lucky by seeing him. There may be some bucks taking up residence around there. I'd definitely try it again simply because deer are so unpredictable at times.

ED, keep that spot!........Hey man, you're passing close to me on I-75 in Lutz when you are going and coming from GA. Pull off at Exit 275/ SR56 and give me a call. Thats only 3 or 4 miles East of me.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll deffinately give it a go..it's a sweet location. Reb, I would love to meet up with you but this week i'll be headin up from Miami on Friday at around 6pm so depending on traffic i'll probably be around your area at around midnight & i'm driving back Tuesday night (not sure when). If I head back early enough i'll let you know. Send me a PM with your contact number.

You if you have a stand and you kill a deer on that stand and every time you killed a deer on any stand and moved because you shot one time you would have to move almost every weekend (depends how much you hunt and your shot) and that would be stressfull......i have been in a stand with my dad and he shot at a doe and shot at a coyote (I was to jitery to shoot im young) then after the 2 shots and he walked out into the shooting lane then a nice 9 point walks out for some strange reason im not nervous then BAM!.....it goes to show you just because sumbody shoots doesnt meen they aint cum out deer work in strange ways

My advise includes: Find out how many days you father-in-law has been hunting that stand. If it was more than, oh say, 3 days in a row, I would let it rest for another week. Deer in the area may have winded your father-in-law 2 out of those three days and may avoid the area (possibly including a monster). I agree with walker12 that that deer could be a roving male (rut coming) and more may filter through as well including that monster. So weigh your options and good luck.

Different areas can be different as well. In the area I hunt if you shoot a deer they will move out of there for about 2 weeks. But when I went down state to where my brother hunted you can shoot a deer and get another 1 in the same spot. So yes I would give it a try again...if no luck I would try it again in a few days..
