My advise includes: Find out how many days you father-in-law has been hunting that stand. If it was more than, oh say, 3 days in a row, I would let it rest for another week. Deer in the area may have winded your father-in-law 2 out of those three days and may avoid the area (possibly including a monster). I agree with walker12 that that deer could be a roving male (rut coming) and more may filter through as well including that monster. So weigh your options and good luck.
