I bought a mossberg 695 slug gun for deer hunting I will have a scope on it and will be shooting three inch sabot slugs. What range would this setup be lethal to and what size scope. thanks.

Try to keep the shots at under 100 yards. Slugs are heavy, and they have a lot of drop over 100 yds. A good 4x scope would do the trick, just make sure you get one with at least 3" of eye relief (unless you like black eyes)
Good Luck!!
Walk softly and carry a big gun...or just make accurate shots.

OK a slug gun is like a man or womem. Not all work out good together.Every slug gun has a slug that works better then the rest.I shoot a mossburg 500 and I tried many slugs over the years. The difference was awesome.I had my gun sighted in for one brand and the next brand was 6 inches off.You have to experiment to see which one gives you the best pattern.I found in my mossburg the Winchester gold hollow pts work the best.Of course they are the most expensive. 100 yards if you have a good match.I like to keep it to 75 yards to be ethical with my skill.

I would recommend a variable power scope that starts around 1X or 2X at the most. If you hunt in brush at all, 4X is a mite too much for my liking. Your question of "What range would this setup be lethal to" is only answered by YOU spending a lot of time at the range. Do NOT use anyone's numerical answer on this board. If you can't hit a 6" diameter circle every time at 50 yards at the range, then it is less than 50 yards. If you can keep them all in a 3" circle at 100, great. As far as energy goes (lethality), it depends upon each slug, but usually (not always) your marksmanship is the limiting factor. Most slugs have enough energy at 100 yards for a humane kill. I would recommend that you try a lot of different brands as was suggested and my opinion is the 2 3/4s as well. But you never know what your gun will like, so try the 3s also. I would really recommend a shooting vise for siting it in, it is a better way to go and much more pleasant. Best of luck to ya.

I bought a 695 last fall and mounted a simmoms 1.5x-5x pro-diamond scope on it.With lightfield 2 3/4 inch slugs i can keep 3 shots in 2 1/2 inches at 100yds.I shot a doe in New York with this combo and it knocked her off her feet.
