sit and call one in you might have better luck, if you stalk you might spook a deer you didnt even know was there

I think you are asking a bit much for a 11 year old as far as stalking.I would take a Stand and have him one of those little Games to play to keep him from getting bored.

Depends on how much you trust everyone else in the woods. Personally, when my son was that age, we hunted private land with no one else around from a ground blind. The next year we tried a tree stand and found out he was afraid of heights. Now that he is 24, he hunts from a ground blind and I sit up in a 21' tree stand.

I do both, spot and stalk and sitting. It just depends on the day, weather, wind and the mood I am in.
