I was out once a little while back scouting around a creek for deer tracks. The creek runs parallel to a nearby cornfield so almost all the deer in the woods cross it. It gives me an idea of the number of smaller deer vs. larger deer by looking at track size. Also, its a good way of finding where most deer actually cross.

Scouting should be a year long process. I have been scouting a little bit differently this year. All year long I have been sitting in my favourite spots with a video camera. I have tons of video of a lot of deer. Including one HUGE 13 point buck that has around a 20 inch inside spread. Scouting this way has been a ton of fun, its taught me deer patterns and actions...plus it's been alot of fun.
