Default Cabelas......Into Real Estate Now?

It appears that Cabelas is getting into the real estate business....buying up property that would/could normally be open to the general public. This was in today's paper: http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070625/NEWS01/706250302

Folks out here are sending their Cabelas catalogs back to them in protest (including myself).....seems odd that they want to sell all their stuff to us deer hunters and then buy up the land we have to use their stuff on.

We had a building supply store out here a few years ago that decided to get into building houses. Guess what? All of the contractors didn't think too kindly of it and took their business elsewhere. That not only ended the store from building houses but put them into bankruptcy. Maybe Cabelas needs to think twice about where they're headed.......

If Mr. Lincoln wanted the land to become state property he should have deeded it to the state instead of the Catholic church. What is the difference in Cabela's real estate company selling the property in behalf of the Catholics rather than Century 21 or any number of hundreds of real estate companies? Sounds like a bunch of people are getting their panties in a wad over nothing other than the Catholics seeking more money. They are getting mad at the wrong people.

Good point. I thought that myself. The problem is that where it sits now, the state probably can't compete with the money Cabela has.... It might be Montana right now, but it will be your hunting grounds next. Just keep buying your stuff from Cabelas to make sure they have the money to buy whatever ground it is you hunt.

Cabela's already has a very successful reality business. They have their "Cabela's Properties" catalog filled with awesome hunting tracts from around the country. Make sense, it's a BIG money business these days!

Yeah, Cabela's has been in the land business for a while now and so has Mossy Oak (the camo company) They claim to be handling mostly hunting properties. I know a rancher here in Texas that has 35,000 + acres listed with Cableas.

I too don't understand what the big deal is. Just another real estate company and I personally would rather buy from them if it is going to be a large property since I'mk sure they did their homework, just like with their trip booking agency as well. No real need to get your panties knottedup I don't think.

The big deal is it is a big push in the direction in pay to hunt! It is not like the are buying open ground for building on. They are buying good hunting ground to sell to people for hunt clubs and out of state hunters. It all just sounds like good reality money until you go over to the old farmers house to get your slip signed for free and he says sorry cabelas owns it now and you have to book a hunt with them. Maybe he will tell you a group of rich folks now own his land and it is full of no trespassing signs. What they are doing is making it easier for rich people to hunt and hard for the little man to find property to hunt.

I find that hard to believe.......the state of Montana can't compete with Cabelas? Quit buying from Cabelas and save up so you can buy one of the tracts of land.....

CABELA'S IS NOTBUYING THE LAND, they are acting as a licensed real estate company to sell the land on behalf of the Catholic church. If you want to gripe to someone, call the Pope.......
