RE: problem stayin in the stand
Yea it is pretty hard staying in the stand till noon or more. First thing is a comfortable stand. Next I just keep thinking any second now Big antler head will come bustin out in to the opening and let me get a shot on him. Just sit back and relax also. I use to just think about the deer, but now I really stop to smell the roses so to speak. Enjoy every part of just being out there. Look real close at that squirle, check out the birds and really enjoy the whole experience not just the deer. It really helps when you check out all your surroundings. You will me amazed how time flys when you are watching what all the creatures of the forest are doing. Worry about the complete experience, the deer will come and the time will pass alot faster then you think.

First thing if you don't have a comfortable stand it's almost impossible to stay for any real length of time.Patients is the key to a successful hunt. The longer you stay in your stand the better your odds are. With that said you have to make up your mind that you're going to stick it out.A few weeks ago I sat in rain with high winds and chilly tempertures. I was determined not to give up and stuck it out. There has been times I've stayed in my TreeLounge from long before day break until after dark. Yes that makes for a long day, but I always seem to find something to help keep my attention. When you're out there you never know what you might see.Just that keeps my patient level at it's peak.

You just gotta want it. I've spent several hours in uncomfortable stands. So ask yourself, "how bad you got it?" Desire will override anything. With that said, some days I don't have it as much as others. But when I do: a stand, cold, lack of activity, etc will not make me come in early!

CORD, there are probably different formulas for different people.
The older I get, the easier it is for me to stay on stand. I only sit for about 1 hour out of the whole day. I stand up the rest of the time. I just keep telling myself that any minute the biggest buck in the county will appear!

Reading can be okay if you are careful not to let the pages show from below and not make a commotion when you turn a page. I think a better idea might be something like "books on tape". I haven't tried that though.

Might try to re-evaluate why you are there in the first place. Are you there because you HAVE to be or WANT to be? Therein lies the difference. Personally I like hunters that can't sit still- they just move more deer FOR me. Thanks!!!

CORD FIRST THINGS FIRST. You got to be comfortable!!!!!!!!!!!Warm!!!!!!!!!!And most of all awake!!! To take care of the first 2 bring a padded foam seat to sit on (also helps prevent hemerorids!!) If ya have an old sleeping bag use it like a pair of pants keeps legs and back warm.
Mostly no sense spending all that time up there if your going to get comfy and take a nap!! Make sitting in your stand a learning experience. Look for tails while up in your stand. Test your skill at guessing distances. Put your self through different situations. Do you shoot or not?? All these will keep your mind occupied. Next thing you know its time to go or better yet your trophy shows up!!!
Hunt for the sport, share the outdoors and most of all be safe and enjoy it......know your
back stop when shooting!!
